캐나다 "남북 대화 지속 지지한다"

캐나다 연방정부는 남북한 3차 정상회담 후 20일 외교부 성명을 통해, 지지를 표시했다.
앞서 19일 문재인 대통령과 김정은 위원장은 남북한 대표는 9월 평양 공동선언을 통해 ▲한반도 전쟁위험 제거 ▲민족경제 균형 발전 ▲이산가족 문제 근본적 해결 ▲다양한 분야 남북 교류 협력 적극적으로 추진 ▲한반도 비핵화 및 평화 터전 조성 ▲김정은 위원장 연내 서울방문을 합의했다.
캐나다 정부는 “캐나다는 한반도 안정과 안보 강화를 목표로 한 남북한의 지속적인 대화를 지지한다”라며 “북한 비핵화를 새롭게 공고히 하려는 한국의 노력을 환영한다”라고 밝혔다. 이어 캐나다 정부는 “우리는 영변 핵시설 해체에 대한 북한의 조건부 제안을 기억하고 있다”라며 “국제 원자력 에너지 기구의 영변 사찰을 허용해, 해체 및 안전장치 설치를 확인할 수 있게 해야한다”라고 북한에 요구했다.
캐나다 정부는 현재 한국 정부의 외교적 접근법을 지지했다. 캐나다 정부는 “캐나다는 북한 핵 위기에 대한 외교적 해법이 필수적이며 가능하다고 본다.”라며 “우리는 국제적인 안보 위협을 억제하기 위한 지역과 국제적인 노력에 대해 우리의 지지를 다시 강조하고자 한다.”라고 밝혔다. 단 캐나다 정부는 지역 및 국제적인 노력으로 “완전하고 검증 가능하며 돌이킬 수 없는 북한의 대량 파괴 무기 및 탄도 미사일 폐기를 위한 압력 행사”를 강조해 미국 측 북핵 해결 원칙과 같은 기준을 갖고 있다는 점을 다시 한번 보여줬다.
캐나다 정부는 “우리는 한국 및 우리의 국제사회 파트너들과 지속해서 협력해, 안전하며, 번영하는, 비핵화된 북한을 위해 외교적인 노력을 강화해 나가겠다”라고 성명을 끝맺었다. | JoyVancouver ? | 권민수

“Canada is encouraged by the ongoing dialogue between North Korea and South Korea that aims at increasing stability and security on the Korean Peninsula. We welcome South Korea’s efforts to secure a renewed commitment by North Korea to denuclearize. We note North Korea’s conditional offer to dismantle its nuclear facilities at Yo‎ngbyon and call on them to allow inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency to go to Yongbyon so that they can resume the application of safeguards and verify any dismantlement that may take place.
“Canada believes that a diplomatic solution to the North Korea nuclear crisis is essential and possible. We reaffirm our support to regional and international efforts to address this pressing international security threat, including through sanctions that exert pressure on North Korea to abandon its weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs completely, verifiably and irreversibly.
“We will continue to work with South Korea and our international partners to strengthen diplomatic efforts toward a secure, prosperous and denuclearized North Korea.”
